The liver is the largest internal organ and it is responsible for an astonishing variety of life-sustaining and health-promoting tasks. However, most people are guilty of neglecting their liver by not eating and living healthily enough.
Anytime when we are exposed to environmental pollutants or stress, or when we overeat or eat processed or fried foods, the liver becomes overworked and overloaded, resulting in the liver not processing toxins and fats in an efficient way.
When this happens, liver detoxification is needed to help cleanse the liver and stimulate its natural ability to clean toxic waste from the body.

Milk Thistle Seed
Milk Thistle is a herbaceous annual or biennial plant with a dense-prickly flower head and reddish-purple tubular flowers. It is native to the Mediterranean region and has been naturalized in Central Europe, North and South America, and Southern Australia. Milk Thistle has an extensive history of use as an edible plant
Milk thistle has been used for over two thousand years due to its remarkable effects on the liver and gallbladder. Galen and Pliny, the ancient philosophers recognized and used the power of milk thistle for liver cleansing and support. Milk thistle helps with the detoxification of poisons such as alcohol, regeneration of damaged liver tissue, stimulation of bile production, and improved digestion.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa), the bright yellow spice used throughout Asia for centuries, has in recent decades been embraced by the West, not just for its ability to satisfy our appetite for curry, but for its impressive list of health benefits. Turmeric is quite literally, hot stuff.
Grown for its root, turmeric has an ancient history of uses in cooking, fabric dyeing, cosmetics and traditional medicine in China and India.
Turmeric and its powerful ingredient, curcumin, have a range of health benefits. Antioxidants have the potential to prevent heart disease, eye conditions, and Alzheimer’s. Anti-inflammatory properties can help people with arthritis. Turmeric may even reduce the risk or spread of cancer.
Indian Mulberry (Noni) (Morinda citrifolia)
Indian mulberry (Noni) is a hardy tree that is found throughout the tropics and is known by many fanciful names such as canary wood, dog dumpling and cheese fruit. It is not used so much for food except as animal fodder. Like many plants in the coffee family it has many active phytochemicals, mostly derived from the strange-looking fruit.
The herb is used in traditional Polynesian culture to treat hepatitis, among other ailments and there are reports of noni being used for anything from stomach ulcers to malaria and skin parasites. Few laboratory studies using the typical carbon tetrachloride test, give some evidence of the herb’s effectiveness against liver damage.
People use noni for cancer, high blood pressure, athletic performance, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. The FDA has issued multiple warnings to noni manufacturers about health claims that aren’t supported by research.
The Schisandra plant is sometimes referred to as Chinese Magnolia Vine or Five Flavored Fruit. The five distinct flavors found in the berry correspond to the five phases or Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine: Sour (Wood), Bitter (Fire), Sweet (Earth), Acrid (Metal) and Salty (Water). Hence it’s name Wu Wei Zi in Chinese. It is considered a Harmonizing Tonic or “King” remedy in Chinese Medicine because of its well balanced energetic nature.
Other Herbs in this category include, but are not limited to: Licorice, Dong Quai, Panax Ginseng, Jujube Dates, and Bupleurum. The Schisandra herb is included in every classic text on Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used to support a healthy functioning endocrine system, digestive system, and normal liver function. Schisandra chinensis can also function as a convalescent tonic herb when the kidney system is involved.
Schisandra berries provide powerful antioxidant protection, particularly from free radicals and other toxins in the environment that may cause cellular damage. Regarded as a popular adaptogenic herb, schisandra berries are unique in that they hold a remarkable blend of five distinct flavor properties collectively serving to promote overall health and vitality. Namely, bitter, sweet, sour, salty and hot.
Schisandra berries function to enhance the body’s natural resistance and adaptation to stressful influences, support mental endurance and promote overall metabolic efficiency.* Much of the clinical research has focused on the effects of Schisandra on liver function, especially its effect on the production of various liver detoxifying enzymes as well as the antioxidant activity of the extract. More research is needed to fully understand all of the schisandra herb’s benefits.
